Catchcan install for the valve cover breather

Brian Hood bought a catchcan from Summit to replace the standard breather filter mod on the valve cover. The reason for a filter is this - the line that goes from the valve cover to the intake hose is constantly sucking oil vapor into the intake system, and sooner or later you end up with a film of oil all over the inside of your intercooler, decreasing its' efficieny. The advantage to the catchcan install is that you don't get oil sprayed onto your Hood like you do when you put a breather directly on the valve cover fitting, and you just turn a valve to empty the built up oil.

Buy a catchcan from Summit Racing - part # SUM-G1505 for red, SUM-G1506 for blue. Price is around $30. Buy the following hardware:

    • 2 - 1/4"-20x1" threaded couplings (used to join 2 bolts together)
    • 1/8" NPT hose barb
    • 1 foot of 3/8" vacuum hose
    • Coupling for 3/8" vacuum hose (to attach 2 pieces end to end)
    • A short piece of 1/4"-20 threaded rod (or 2 - 1/4" 1" long bolts)

    • Remove the MAF/air filter assembly.
    • Cut 2 pieces of threaded rod 3/4" long
    • Screw the threaded rods into the catchcan
    • Screw the threaded couplings onto the threaded rod

Drill a hole in the top of the catchcan next to the filter and thread the hose barb into the catchcan. Attach the 1 foot piece of hose to the barb, then attach the stock breather hose to the new hose using the 3/8" coupling.

Hold the catchcan up to the engine side of the passenger inner fenderwell and place it so that it clears the radiator bottle and transmission, and mark the location of the threaded couplings.

Drill holes at the locations you marked and attach catchcan using the bolts supplied with the can.
