EXHAUST FAQ !

This "Exhaust FAQ" was written by Benjamin Sabini, and hopefully will help many newbies to decide which system is better for their DSM car.
PS. All pictures in this page is what you get when you bought the unit.

DOWN PIPE.

IMAGINE MOTOR
This is the only one that I know of, since I just put one my self. I must say this is a good down pipe with a 2 1/2" diameter (stock is 2"), easy to install too. The power from this down-pipe is true, as I have proved by Dynoed them. The boost pressure is up from (stock 0.5 bar) to 0.58 bar.
Price; ~$400

BUSCHUR RACING
Dave Buschur from Buschur Racing now have down pipe for all DSM'ers. Available from; 2.5" w/flex to 3" w/o flex eliminates cat (off road only).
Price; ~$200-350

CATALYTIC.

If you don't want to go illegal, don't read this part. Catalytic is the major source of power loss, from the stock cat you can't even see the end of it. Replacing with dummy cat, or EPA approved cat design for T/E/L and dramatically increases your car horse-power (5-10hp depends on how powerful your engine is ). Price; ~$50

EXHAUST.

All these exhaust below, they are sold as a system (whole set of pipes connecting from the end of the catalytic to the end. It is also known as the cat-back system. Price; varies, from $500-$600

HKS, TRUST
Both are made in Japan, and member of "JAZMA" [something like SEMA]. With a 2 3/8" diameter and made from aluminize all of them are a good exhaust. For HKS and TRUST exhaust they are squeeze down to 2" before connected to the catalytic converter. About HKS exhaust, they tent to erode after 5 years according to many users, TRUST is more popular although they are almost the same, except the color. 90-94 model: HKS and TRUST system comes with dual 2" tips. 95-up model: HKS comes with dual tips, while TRUST comes with single 3" tip.
Price; $500

DYNOMAX
Made in the US, has the same diameter as HKS and TRUST. For 1989-1994 model you can just buy it and it is bolt on, but for the 95-up I'm not sure if they has made one yet.
Price; $$$

IMAGINE MOTOR & BUCSHUR RACING
Both are now have 3" pipe with DynoMax muffler, and everybody in the list love it. Both also has a 3" single tip. For full performance, I think everybody will agree with me if I say this is the way to go.
Price; $500

APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES & RESEARCH
As said in the Turbo Magazine (May, 1996) it said; Applied Technologies is offering a stainless-steel, 3" exhaust system for '89-'94 AWD Talons/Eclipse. The T304 stainless system fits with no welding, grinding or cutting. The mandrel-bent system utilizes a stainless-steel muffler using a straight through design and a 2000- degree ceramic sound buffer to control sound. The system exhibits dramatic flow improvements. Information regarding the horse-power than comes from this system or its reliability is not known yet.
Price; $$$

RS*R
This is probably the latest edition of exhaust, especially for the 95's. The pipe is a 3" in diameter, 2 section, mandrel bent, with a huge 5" tips. Yes! You all read it right, 5" tips, you can probably stuck your shoe in it. The sound come from this system is surprising not as loud as other 3" system, but still gives you power as the other 3", says Marc S. Horse power wise, not yet known. I would guess roughly the same as the rest of the 3" system.
Price: $600

MUFFLER .

These exhaust below, are sold ONLY the muffler, NOT a system.

BORLA & TURBO TUF
If sound that you are looking, and maybe a little bit of performance, this will suit you, but for full performance you might want to go with full exhaust system that already design for your car and you performance needs.
Price; ~$300
