I had fuel cut, and needed to cure it CHEAP, so.....I removed the lower honeycomb from the MAF, and chopped the aircan all to heck.
The MAF mod was simple. Grind off some rivet heads, remove the small retainers, and push out the lower honeycomb. It used to be right below the larger honeycomb. However, I am still wondering if I can grind off those 2 circular protrusions, they seem to do nothing but block airflow.
The aircan was pretty simple too - chop the heck out of it, but still leave enough metal to retain all 3 mounting points, and retain its' shape. Note how little really is left - it is still quite stiff however. I used a Dremel with abrasive cutoff wheels (the fiberglas reinforced ones) and it took about 2 discs and an hour or so for a very neat job, much neater than you'd ever get with a hacksaw or jigsaw. If you want proof of how restrictive the stock can is even without the snorkel, look at this pic - if airflow was better, it wouldn't be so obvious as to the shape of the old opening, now, would it?
